Rather than one continuous road, the trail is best understood as a set of geographic clusters — for example the Mosby Cluster, grouped along Route 50 (John Mosby Highway) in the Middleburg viticultural area where wine country and horse country intersect (middleburglife.com). Picking one cluster per day is the sane way to visit: it keeps the drive-time between tasting rooms short and the scenery — orchard slopes, hunt-country estates, Blue Ridge overlooks — front and center.
Plan a weekend
A ready-made template is Visit Loudoun’s two-day “Wine with a View” itinerary, which threads the most scenic tasting rooms in published order (visitloudoun.org). Day one stays north and high: start at Hillsborough Winery, Brewery & Vineyards on the slopes of Short Hill Mountain, then wind up to Bluemont Vineyard, whose multi-level tasting room and terrace sit on the east-facing Blue Ridge with long views back toward the county (visitloudoun.org). Day two drops south into Middleburg horse country for Greenhill Vineyards and Cana Vineyards & Winery — set between Middleburg and Aldie — before curving back north toward Leesburg to finish at Stone Tower Winery, reached via Route 15 and Hogback Mountain Road (visitloudoun.org).
